Let Your World Bring Out the Best in You

community, empathy, resonance

Do you feel like some people bring out the best in you, while others seem to bring out the worst?

It’s nobody’s “fault” – not yours, not theirs; it’s simply because of resonance. When you understand how resonance works with your personal energy field, you can harness it in ways that can not only protect you but help you evolve.

Understanding resonance

Once you accept that everything is energy, the next concept to embrace is resonance. Resonance is a concept from physics which tells us that when two things which vibrate at the same frequency, they amplify each other.

Here’s a YouTube video from GrandpaJohn TV that explains the concept using tuning forks:

[embedplusvideo height=”315″ width=”420″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/1ajM8ls” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/hiHOqMOJTH4?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=hiHOqMOJTH4&width=420&height=315&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=0&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep8003″ /]

What Grandpa John demonstrates is that a tuning fork can start to vibrate without being hit, but only if another tuning fork of the same frequency is vibrating nearby. One tuning fork vibrating at the musical tone of “G” can cause a nearby “G” fork to vibrate, but striking an “E” fork so that it vibrates has no effect on a “G” tuning fork.

So what?

This happens with people too, giving us good reason to seriously think about who we’re keeping company with.

People, of course, are more complicated than tuning forks. While tuning forks are designed to vibrate at one single frequency, we have many parts and pieces, physical and non-physical, that can vibrate at different frequencies.

That’s why, for example, stubbing your toe doesn’t make your whole body hurt.

That’s also why you can love someone and hate them at the same time, holding both emotions at once. And why you can be outwardly hopeful while secretly holding fear – perhaps in a place so deep that you don’t even know the source of the vibration; you only know when it rises to the surface as self-sabotage.

Resonance in action

Have you ever noticed that how you act with one group of people – say, your co-workers – can be very different from how you act with another group, like your family? And not necessarily from any conscious decision on your part? This is an effect of resonance.

Because of resonance, the people around you have the ability to raise your vibration or lower it. No, it’s not mind control. And it’s not an excuse to play the victim either.

Being in close proximity to another person allows their most amplified vibration (emotion) to extend out toward you. Your ability to sense this is called empathy. Understand, though, that sensing that vibration is not the same as being affected by it.

Let’s say, for example, that you’re standing next to someone who’s angry. You might be able to sense his anger, but you will only become angry too (i.e., start noticeably vibrating at the frequency of anger) if part of you is already vibrating with anger. Otherwise, it’ll be like he’s the “G” note tuning fork in Grandpa John’s video and you’re an “E” tuning fork, and he’ll have no impact on you at all.

It’s not just physical proximity

The tuning fork demonstration shows us how physical proximity can invoke resonance. Tuning forks, of course, only receive vibrations through simple, physical means; we humans, on the other hand, have many more complex ways that we can invoke resonance, especially the meaning of words that we hear or read.

Think of it this way: Any way that you can receive information (intellectual, sensory, or otherwise) is a way that resonance can be invoked for you.

What this means for you

Now that you understand how the people around you can affect you, you have more power to protect and elevate yourself. Frankly, the more that you pay attention to who you surround yourself with, the more that you can maneuver your environment to your benefit. And the more that you keep your vibration high (e.g., joyful, happy, hopeful, abundant), the more that you’ll evolve and connect with Spirit.

Here are four things you can do to leverage the concept of resonance for your highest good:

1 – Clear your stuff

The best way to keep your surroundings from lowering your vibration is to eliminate anything within you that enable them to do so. Keep doing your healing work so that even when someone near you is emitting a low vibration, there’s nothing within you that will resonate with it.

Energy healing is a powerful tool for this because you don’t have to locate the source of the low vibration; once you set the intention to eradicate it, the healing energy will follow your intention all the way to the root of the problem. Its frequency and amplitude are so powerful that it permanently changes the vibrations within you.

2 – Minimize your exposure to low vibrations

There comes a time in your life – perhaps it’s now – when you have to take charge of maintaining your own vibration. If you want to evolve to a higher level, you have to eliminate the influences that keep bringing your vibration back down. While you’re working to clear your stuff, it’s a bit easier to do if you aren’t constantly being dragged back down into it by external influences.

This is why spiritual teachers frequently tell you to stop watching the news, because it will only trigger you and bring you back down. I also recommend weeding your Facebook friends, Twitter feed, and other social media; if un-friending certain people will cause too much drama, at least hide their posts when you find that they’re triggering you.

For the cases where you can’t scrub your life clean, recognize the gift in it: Those remaining instances that trigger you will indicate where you still resonate with lower energies, so that you know what stuff you have to clear.

3 – Shield your energy field

When you can’t prevent exposure to lower vibrations, you can protect yourself from them with interference – that is, by introducing a separate source of vibration that cancels it out. And you probably already know how to do this! Two common ways are with shielding and with crystals.

“Shielding” may mean a number of things; what I mean is surrounding yourself with a bubble or column of protective energy by invoking it with your intention. White energy has the best interference qualities. Visualize it or feel it around you.

Certain crystals are also effective protectors. They emit a vibration that can cancel lower vibrations coming toward or from you. Hematite, red jasper, and amethyst are great protectors, but the list of possibilities is almost endless. If you own any crystals at all, chances are good that you can use one to protect yourself just by keeping it with you.

4 – Surround yourself with high vibrations

This is not all doom and gloom; you don’t have to be afraid to leave the house ever again. Instead, fill your environment with positive people and influences who have the potential not only to keep your vibration up but raise it even higher.

Some quick examples:

  • Regularly schedule time with friends who love and support you. For added impact, watch funny movies, meditate, or study spiritual teachings together.
  • Join a mastermind with other positive thinkers.
  • Follow blogs and/or join the mailing lists of successful people who embody principles you admire. (My most recent have been Vishen Lakhiani of Mindvalley and Robin Sharma – both are enlightened entrepreneurs.)
  • Visit a temple, church, or other place where praise and love of the Divine abound.
  • Take periodic vacations to the mystical places on our planet, such as Sedona and Mount Shasta.

Be intentional about it, and have fun!
