Crystals: Where Science and Metaphysics Meet, Part II

crystals, energy

Last week we examined the appeal of crystals and began to explore the science behind how crystals work. There is so much information, we decided to spread it out over two weeks to give you a chance to digest at least some of it. This week, we explore crystals other than clear quartz, how they work and the metaphysical properties of crystals.

Science, Meet the Metaphysical

We previously learned about how quartz operates within the confines of a clock: it vibrates at a set frequency, and the clock is able to translate those vibrations to time measurement. Because their molecular structure is similar to quartz, we might assume that other types of crystals also vibrate at a consistent frequency when exposed to energy. The reality is, what that frequency is depends on the color, mineral content, density and other physical and chemical properties of the crystal.

Now let’s put these lessons all together. If I’m holding a piece of citrine, which is yellow and mostly transparent, my energy field is going to cause it to vibrate at a vibratory signature that’s unique to citrine. (It’s worth noting that different pieces of citrine will vibrate differently according to their purity; i.e., whether any other minerals are mixed in.) In turn, the vibration emitted by the piece of citrine is felt by my energy field, which changes to resonate with the citrine. If I’m holding another crystal instead, such as amethyst, the relationship works the same way, but the frequency is different from citrine.

The most important thing to note is that while a person’s energy field can change frequency, the vibration of the crystal stays the same. That’s how crystals end up affecting us – we come into resonance with them instead of them with us.

Crystal Properties

So we have crystals to help bring happiness, money, love and all sorts of things into our lives. How then do we know which crystals have which properties?

Crystal properties of the metaphysical are verified by anecdotal evidence, meaning not through controlled experiments. They have been long documented through stories of experiences and are accepted to be accurate. Because the evidence has been observed and documented for such a long time, this also explains why most crystals have a long list of properties – individual experiences do vary within a range.

Everyone’s experience with a crystal may be slightly different. It’s important that you not overlook your own power when working with crystals. Regardless of what you’ve read about the properties of a certain crystal, you should experiment with it and see what it does specifically for you. And always, ALWAYS remember that a crystal does not GIVE you anything – it simply amplifies what it already within you, making it easier for you to express.

Come in to Zenquility to see our selection of crystals and figure out which are a good match for you on your spiritual journey. We can help guide you and get you moving towards your version of higher consciousness.
