In the weeks since our grand opening celebration, we have been so honored to meet all of the people who have come into our Center for Higher Consciousness in such a short time. The number one comment we have heard from our customers so far is, “I’ve been wanting a place like these where I can buy crystals.” So now that crystals are finally in the Gainesville area, let’s talk about what they are and how they work.

The Appeal of Crystals

Crystals are usually one of the first things people are drawn to when they embark on their spiritual journey. Conventionally explained, they are semi-precious gemstones. But in the spiritual sense, the appeal for many people is that they bridge the physical and the metaphysical worlds. Crystals are said to help you attract more money, feel more loved and feel better just by being in their presence. These are certainly ideas that defy conventional thinking. But crystals have an additional attraction: they are something tangible that you can hold in your hands (unlike popular metaphysical constructs like angels or astrology), so it’s easier for many people embarking on a spiritual journey to accept that they are real.

How Crystals Work

Today we’re going to have a mini science class, because what science already knows about crystals helps us understand why they seem to have healing properties, which we’ll go more into next week.

When we look at most metaphysical things, they can be explained by modern science. That’s why I love to teach about crystals. Quartz is one of my favorite crystals. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral on the planet. A component of a huge variety of rock types, quartz comes in a wide range of colors and varieties such as agate and jasper. Colored quartz crystals often come with their own names, such as amethyst for purple quartz.

Have you ever noticed the word “quartz” on the face of a clock or watch? It means that clock or watch contains quartz — what we would refer to as clear quartz. The use of quartz is what allows a clock to operate without needing a pendulum to swing back and forth in order to measure out the seconds.

The electricity from the battery passes through the quartz crystal, which vibrates in response and always at the exact same frequency. The rest of the watch is engineered to measure out the seconds based on the predictable, consistent number of vibrations per second in the electrified quartz crystal.

Why would I go through this explanation of how a watch works in a blog about crystals? It’s to demonstrate that mainstream science already acknowledges that quartz vibrates when electricity, a form of energy, passes through it.

Now think about the implications of this.

The fact that quartz crystals produce a consistent vibration when exposed to electricity suggests that they also produce a consistent vibration when exposed to other energies, such as sound and light, and to non-physical energies such as emotional energy, thoughts and healing energy like Reiki.

Among crystal users, quartz is regarded as an amplifier, able to intensify the properties of other crystals, emotions within your body, and (of course) healing energy. (Hmm, after all these year I suddenly realize why my watch batteries started dying faster as I did more energy healing. Maybe the quartz was amplifying my energy and sending it through the watch.)

And this is where I’m going to leave it for now, so you have time to absorb the vast potential of just this one crystal.

Next week, we will delve more deeply and examine the science behind crystals. We’ll take a look into the properties of different crystals, so be sure to visit our blog. And be sure to come check out our ever-growing collection of crystals at Zenquility. We will be happy to educate you on which ones may be right for your spiritual journey.
